View of an ammonite from Madagascar. The ammonite is a thin section viewed by transmitted light. Shows chambers and septa (dividers), these chambers were sealed off as the ammonite grew and could be filled with air by the animal to regulate it's buoyancy. Identifying ammonites is not easy but this is probably Cleoniceras sp. from the Cretaceous.
