Barytes from Castleton, England rock thin section Coaster (C64)
A thin rock section of Barytes was viewed using crossed polarising filters. Barytes is an ore Rock and contains Barium Sulphate, also known as Heavy Spar. Used in oil drilling to pump down the well to lubricate the cutting head and its heaviness to prevent the oil/gas under pressure from blowing back up to the surface.
This sample from Derbyshire near Castleton, famous for ‘Blue John’ fluorite.
